Except if you have allergy on cocoa products, you can’t just resist the temptation of rich and creamy chocolate. No matter how delicious your favorite chocolates are, however, you can’t afford to mess up your carpet with it. In case you have no idea, chocolate stains are among the most deeply stuck stains on fibers. Suppose, the staining of your lovely carpet already happened, do you know how you will remove such mess? If you say ‘no’, this post can help you a lot. Here are some easy-to-follow tips that will guarantee you a totally chocolate stain-free carpet.
Tip# 1. Gentle scraping
Chocolates melt in high temperature and solidify in low temperature levels. At times, carpets get messed up by melted chocolate which eventually turns into a ‘mold’. Once you see that there are spots on your carpet with dried chocolates, the immediate solution is gentle scraping. Take note, it has to be gentle. Using a knife, you can scrape some chocolate molds on your carpet. This will no eliminate all the stains but it will lessen the thickness. Also, once the carpet gets exposed to higher temperature, you are at least sure that the chocolate will no longer melt and eventually spread out.
Tip #2. Vacuum clean it
Once the scraping is done, you might choose to simply pick up the chocolate particles you have scraped. This is fine but doing this does not guarantee that you are picking up all the tiny chocolate pieces. So how do you make sure that you are not missing every single chocolate bit? The solution is simple – use a vacuum cleaner. By doing so, you will be able to suck the chocolate tidbits and all other particulates that got trapped on its fibers.
Tip #3. Soak the carpet in hot water
As being mentioned earlier, chocolate dissolves in high temperature. Therefore, soaking your carpet (or at least the stained spot only) in hot water. This method will melt the chocolate that stuck into the carpet’s fibers. It will soften the stains sticking-capability on the carpet, which will make it easier for you to remove the stains. You may then use brush to eliminate this mess.
Tip #4. Use detergent and bleach
If method Tip #3 does not work, you may need to use detergent and bleach products along with appropriate brushing motion. Bleach, in particular, is specifically-made for the purpose of removing such stains. Certain bleaching products are so powerful that even a single tiny drop can already remove any signs of stains. While this is true, however, you should keep in mind that it might also affect your carpet’s color as it is capable of removing the fiber’s colors too. So, before you use any detergent and/or bleaching products, make sure that your carpet is not “color-fast”. This way, you will be able to maintain its color balance.
If none of these methods work, the best thing to do is to hire professional carpet cleaners. These professionals have all the knowledge and expertise in removing different chocolate stains on different types of carpets. By doing so, you do not have to do the tiring task of de-staining your lovely carpet.
